Is it country or modern, that is the question?

My son-in-law, Ryan, says my choice of TV stand is too modern for my country decor. It's a little hard to tell in the pic, but it is distressed and weathered, so I ask for your opinion, is it country or modern?

modern color:modern tv most people with country or rustic decor use browns like the rest of your house and when they have a newer big screen it is hidden in an armoir type entertainment center like your old one that would have went very well but a black piece thats not real country living.......ryan

WELL...Elmer...since when do you care about decorating???

Shelly, I have decided that we have similar taste. I'm a rustic country style girl myself. Anyways, my first thought was, "Wow, that's cute!" Then, my next thought was, "Is it distressed on the edges and kind of antiqued?" I love black antiqued furniture. If you say it is, then it's not modern. (It is hard to tell in the picture.) Ryan doesn't know anything. :-) Just because it's black does not mean it's modern. You need to ask Jill and Ryan. They're into the modern look. That's what I want whenever we buy bedroom furniture. Nice TV too! Were these Christmas gifts?

i think the lines on the piece are absolutely country. The beveled wood and the x across the doors are characteristic found in "country" furniture, not modern. True the color black is a modern color, but it is also found in almost all "french country" designs. i think it is a great piece to put a TV on because it camouflages the black TV making the TV a part of the room rather than a statement.
Thanks for letting us give our opinion, that was fun.
